Seven Heavens
Original painting · 8″ × 35″ · Oil on linen with Hebrew inscriptions
Available, please inquire.
Seven bands of blue, each inscribed with the name of one of the seven firmaments taught in the Talmud: Vilon, Rakia, Shechakim, Zevul, Ma’on, Machon and Aravot.
The long, narrow format carries the eye through the layers, from Vilon, the curtain of the visible sky, to Aravot, the highest heaven.
Sources
“Reish Lakish said: There are seven firmaments: Vilon, Rakia, Shechakim, Zevul, Ma’on, Machon and Aravot.” — Talmud, Chagigah 12b
“Extol Him who rides upon the Aravot.” — Psalms 68:5
Would you like a painting like this, made for you? Every commission begins with a chevruta, a study session with the artist.
Commission a Painting
Each commission is an original, made by hand to your size, materials and idea: a verse, a Hebrew letter, a value or a Kabbalistic concept. Tell me what inspires you and the space it will hang in. We begin with a chevruta, in person or by video, studying the sources together, and the painting grows out of that learning. To ask about an available painting, mention its title.
