About the Scribe

Jamie Shear, (Zalman Leib) is a skilled scribe focusing on the centuries old tradition of illuminating holy texts. Jamie studied Safrut StaM (the craft of writing Torahs, Tefillin and Mezuzot) in Jerusalem, under the guidance of Chaim David Saracik, and has received his certification from the Va’ad Mishmeret StaM in B’nei Brak, Israel. He completes his work with passion, concentration, and the highest standard of integrity.

The Rabbis of the Talmud learned about "Hidur," beautifying a Mitzvah, from the verse in Exodus 15:2, that states, "This is my L-rd and I will Glorify Him, The L-rd of my fathers, I will adorn." In fulfilling this verse, Jamie captures the spiritual beauty of classic texts and decorates them using an array of mediums and artistic techniques

Jamie’s work has been commissioned by a variety of patrons, public institutions and synagogues. He has completed three Torah scrolls and is currently writting his forth. In addition, Jamie has written numerous Megillot, Mezuzot, Ketubot, and Tefillin. His artwork has appeared in galleries and adorns walls around the world.

Jamie is married to Amy and they have three children.
